Prerequisites: AHA BLS certification or American Red Cross BLS/CPR for Healthcare certification. This is offered in the course if your current provider card is expired or required. 

Recommended: Score at or above an ‘ability to succeed’ level of the ASSET test.

This course is designed to prepare the student to pass the NREMT certification exams and work as a competent entry-level EMT. In this course, the student will gain the knowledge and skills to properly assess and manage a variety of injuries and illnesses. The student will learn emergency scene management, introductory anatomy and physiology, the medical and legal concerns of pre-hospital emergency care, airway management, spinal and bone/joint motion restriction, principles of ambulance operation, and many specialty topics. Clinical experience is a mandatory component of this course with a minimum number of hours required on an ambulance. More details of these hours will be described in the course syllabus and schedule. Students successfully completing this course will be eligible to apply for the National Registry EMT Certification examination.

Some core content includes:
  • Recognize the nature and seriousness of the patient’s condition or extent of injuries to assess requirements for emergency medical care;
  • Administer appropriate emergency medical care based on assessment findings of the patient’s condition;
  • Lift, move, position, and otherwise handle the patient to minimize discomfort and prevent further injury;
  • After providing initial care, preparing the patient for transport to an area hospital and continuing care en route; and,
  • Safely and effectively perform the expectations of the job description.
Immunization Requirements:
  • Tetanus and Diptheria toxoid vaccine within the last 10 years
  • Measles, mumps, rubella vaccinations, or documentation of immunity
  • Varicella (chickenpox) vaccination or documentation of immunity
  • Current Influenza Vaccination
  • Hepatitis B series vaccinations or documentation of immunity*

*NOTE: The Hepatitis B vaccination series must be started prior to clinical participation.

Our accelerated EMT course is a blended schedule with a significant portion done online, with flexibility for you to work around your current schedule. Students will meet for the required in-person class dates every Wednesday, beginning with the first day of class on May 21st from 8:00am-5:00pm. The final week of class (August 11 – August 15) will be completely in person for final reviews and exams. Graduation will also take place the end of the final week. 

Kalamazoo Summer 2025 EMT Academy – An accelerated course running from May 22, 2025 – August 15, 2025 **THIS CLASS IS AT CAPACITY**

Students will meet for the required in-person class dates every Thursday, beginning with the first day of class on May 22nd from 8:00am-5:00pm. The final week of class (August 11 – August 15) will be completely in person for final reviews and exams. Graduation will also take place the end of the final week. 

Fremont Fall 2025 EMT Evening Academy – An accelerated course running from August 12, 2025 – November 20, 2025

Our accelerated EMT course is a blended schedule with a significant portion done online, with flexibility for you to work around your current schedule. This course is offered in the evenings! Students will meet for the required in-person class dates every Tuesday and Thursday night, beginning with the first day of class on August 12 from 6:00pm-10:00pm. The final week of class consists of final reviews and exams.

Kalamazoo Fall 2025 EMT Academy – An accelerated course running from September 4, 2025 – December 5, 2025

Our accelerated EMT course is a blended schedule with a significant portion done online, with flexibility for you to work around your current schedule. Students will meet for the required in-person class dates every Thursday, beginning with the first day of class on September 4th from 8:00am-5:00pm. The final week of class (December 1st – 5th) will be completely in person for final reviews and exams. Graduation will also take place the end of the final week. 

Grand Rapids Fall 2025 EMT Academy – An accelerated course running from September 10, 2025 – December 12, 2025 

Our accelerated EMT course is a blended schedule with a significant portion done online, with flexibility for you to work around your current schedule. Students will meet for the required in-person class dates every Wednesday, beginning with the first day of class on September 10th from 8:00am – 5:00pm. The final week of class (December 8 – December 12) will be completely in person for final reviews and exams. Graduation will also take place the end of the final week. 

Grand Rapids Fall 2025 EMT Traditional Course – A streamlined course running from November 11, 2025 – April 23, 2026

We are offering an all in-person traditional EMT program. Class meets on Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 6:00 pm until 10:00 pm (no class  the week of Christmas and New Year’s Day). This schedule allows you to complete your EMT course in 5 months.

The final week of class (March 27 – April 4 ) will be completely in person for final reviews and exams. Graduation will also take place the end of the final week.

Our accelerated EMT course is a blended schedule with a significant portion done online, with flexibility for you to work around your current schedule. Students will meet for the required in-person class dates every Wednesday, beginning with the first day of class on January 15th from 8:00am-5:00pm. The final week of class (April 7 – April 11 ) will be completely in person for final reviews and exams. Graduation will also take place the end of the final week.
